Teen Charged After Philippi East Mass Shooting

A 19-year-old accused appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court after his arrest linked to a shooting at Philippi East tavern earlier this month, that left nine people dead, police said.

He faces nine murder counts, attempted murder, and aggravated robbery charges. Investigators are still hunting at least two other suspects and say the attack may be linked to extortion targeting local businesses.
