The City of Tshwane has warned residents to avoid using local rivers for swimming, baptisms, and other activities after tests revealed high levels of bacterial contamination. Health MMC Tshegofatso Mashabela announced the advisory on 10 November 2025, urging the public to stay clear of rivers and streams due to health risks.

Officials stress that municipal tap water remains safe to drink, as recent tests from Magalies and Rand Water found no dangerous bacteria like Salmonella Typhi. The warning applies only to natural water sources while authorities monitor and address the situation.
