A 43-day US government shutdown ended late on Wednesday after President Donald Trump signed a funding bill approved by the House earlier that evening. The deal restores back pay for about 900 000 federal workers and keeps most agencies funded at current levels until January 2026.
The shutdown, the longest in US history, began on 1 October amid a dispute over health care subsidies. Democrats secured only a promise of a future Senate vote, meaning the political fight over healthcare funding will continue.
