Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has symbolically presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal to US president Donald Trump, saying it was in recognition of his role in supporting Venezuela’s fight for freedom.

The gesture was symbolic rather than legal, with the Nobel Committee noting that Nobel Prizes are not transferable and remain the property of the original recipient, regardless of where the physical medal is displayed.
