Favourability rankings produced in 2025 by South Africa’s Social Research Foundation (SRF) show that Cyril Ramaphosa is not popular among poor people living in shacks.

Whereas 46% of all South Africans, and 53% of Black South Africans, felt favourable towards Mr Ramaphosa, among people who lived in shacks the figure was just 30%.

Mr Ramaphosa is, however, the most popular serving political leader in South Africa. His possible successor as ANC leader, Mr Paul Mashatile, had a favourability score of just 16%.
