Over 80% of registered South African voters think there is a “good African National Congress (ANC)” and a “bad ANC”.
This insight comes from a Social Research Foundation survey of 3 204 registered voters conducted in July 2022.
In that survey a question was put to participants: “The ANC claims to be unified but in truth it is two parties: a good ANC and a bad ANC. Do you disagree with this statement, or do you agree with it?”
Participants could agree or disagree strongly or somewhat with the statement.
Amongst all registered voters 82% agreed with the statement somewhat or strongly and 13% disagreed with the statement somewhat or strongly.
When broken down by party affiliation 72% of ANC voters agreed with the statement somewhat or strongly and 22% disagreed with the statement somewhat or strongly.
Amongst Democratic Alliance voters 93% agreed with the statement somewhat or strongly and 6% disagreed with the statement somewhat or strongly.
The breakdown was similar amongst Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters. Some 89% of EFF voters agreed with the statement somewhat or strongly and 10% disagreed with the statement somewhat or strongly.
