South African football has earned wide recognition in the 2025 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards, with Bafana Bafana, several rising stars, and three Premier Soccer League clubs among the nominees.
Bafana Bafana, who recently booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, are contenders for Men’s National Team of the Year. They face stiff competition from continental heavyweights including Algeria, Egypt, Senegal, and Cote d’Ivoire, as well as the Morocco senior and U-20 teams.
Captain Ronwen Williams is among ten nominees for Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year, joining a field that includes Cameroon’s Andre Onana, Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali, Morocco’s Yassine Bonou, and Senegal’s Edouard Mendy. Williams’s leadership and consistency have anchored Bafana Bafana’s resurgence under coach Hugo Broos.
The country’s youth talent is also being recognised. Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Tylon Smith are shortlisted for Men’s Young Player of the Year after strong seasons that caught the eye of CAF’s selection panel.
On the club front, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Stellenbosch FC have all been nominated for Men’s Club of the Year, reflecting South Africa’s growing influence in African competitions. They compete against leading teams from North and West Africa, including ASEC Mimosas, RS Berkane, Pyramids, and Simba.
