Ramaphosa, Phala Phala, and the ANC

Frans Cronje and Marius Roodt discuss the implications of the Phala Phala judgement for President Cyril Ramaphosa and what the implications are, not just for the ANC.

11 min

In this clip, Frans Cronje and Marius Roodt discuss the implications for the ANC of President Cyril Ramaphosa's Phala Phala impeachment process. Frans expresses that the implications are disastrous for the ANC, as this throws the party into complete chaos. There is no clear line of succession, there is no clear plan for what it should aim for, and now it does not control enough seats in parliament to protect the president without help. Frans ends by saying that the ANC should go to Geordin Hill-Lewis cap in hand and give him as many reforms as he demands in order for the DA to protect Ramaphosa. Marius ends the discussion by recommending to the DA that it use this opportunity to reset the relationships inside of the GNU and push to be treated as an equal partner of the ANC, not as the constantly ignored junior partner role that it has currently played.
