Prince Andrew is being forced to leave his longtime home at Royal Lodge in Windsor as King Charles III moves to formally distance the monarchy from his scandal-hit brother.

Buckingham Palace confirmed that Andrew has been instructed to surrender the property’s lease and will relocate to private accommodation on the Sandringham estate, one of King Charles’s personal residences. Andrew’s former wife, Sarah Ferguson, will also vacate the residence.

The decision accompanies a wider process to remove Andrew’s remaining royal privileges. Once complete, he will no longer hold the style “His Royal Highness” and will instead be known simply as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

The move follows years of reputational damage linked to Andrew’s association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has consistently denied allegations of sexual misconduct made by Virginia Giuffre, settling a civil case in the United States in 2022 without admitting liability.

Palace officials said the decision reflects both: “a need to protect the integrity of the institution” and: “sympathy for the victims and survivors of abuse.” The British government is reported to have backed the King’s action.

The eviction ends Andrew’s decades-long residence at the 30-room Royal Lodge, symbolising his full removal from official royal life and a final effort to contain the fallout from the Epstein scandal.
