India has announced a sharp increase in defence spending, lifting its military budget by 15% to about $85bn in its latest national budget following recent clashes with neighbouring Pakistan.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the increase would fund military modernisation, new equipment, and readiness upgrades amid heightened regional security tensions.
