Indian authorities have detained nine people after an ATM cash van in Bengaluru was hijacked by a group pretending to be Reserve Bank officials. The suspects allegedly forced security staff into another vehicle before escaping with the equivalent of about $800 000.

Police say they have recovered most of the stolen funds and believe the operation involved multiple vehicles and fake licence plates. Those arrested reportedly include a current and former employee of the cash handling firm, along with a police constable.
