Three men have been convicted of the premeditated murder of North West farm worker Dumisani Phakathi at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria. Jaco Wessel Kemp, Louis Coetzee, and Gert Frederik van der Westhuizen were found guilty after evidence showed they acted in common purpose to kill Phakathi and dispose of his body.

Phakathi was attacked while fetching water on a farm in September 2023. The court accepted there was clear intent and planning in the fatal assault.
