The ANC’s support in Ekurhuleni has fallen sharply over the past decade. In 2014, it won 56.4% in the metro, before slipping to 55.2% in 2019 and then crashing to 36.2% in 2024. The DA held a steadier position, moving from 26.9% in 2014 to 23.1% in 2019 and 26.0% in 2024, while the EFF remained in the low teens. The chart captures the scale of the ANC’s decline. Ekurhuleni was once one of the party’s stronger Gauteng metros. It is now a battleground where the ANC may struggle to win even 30% in the 2026 local government election.
