At least 53 migrants, including two babies, are either dead or missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Libya. The boat, carrying 55 people, sank hours after departing from Al‑Zawiya on 5 February. Only two survivors were rescued by Libyan authorities, both women from Nigeria.

The incident highlights the dangers of the central Mediterranean migration route, with hundreds already dead this year.
