Fire Crews Battle Fresh Blazes as Du Toitskloof Pass Reopens

Firefighters in the Cape Winelands have contained most of the major blazes that flared along the N1 at Du Toitskloof Pass, as well as earlier fires near Montagu, Ashton and De Doorns. Authorities say monitoring continues, with conditions still unstable in parts of the district.

A newer fire that broke out on the Worcester side of the pass on Sunday drew crews back to the area and prompted warnings for motorists to slow down, keep headlights on and avoid stopping while teams worked along the roadway. Newer fronts near Wolseley and Franschhoek remain active.
