The University of Cape Town and the Irma Stern Trust have ended their 56 year partnership, leading to the closure of the Irma Stern Museum at The Firs. The collection has been moved to an archival facility as the Trust plans a new home that meets full museum standards.

Arts groups have expressed concern over the sudden closure and limited public consultation. The Trust says the collection remains protected and that the transition will safeguard Irma Stern’s legacy while long term plans are finalised.
