A 43-year-old female pilot died when her Robinson helicopter struck power lines and crashed on Roodegrond farm outside Patensie, Eastern Cape, on Monday. The helicopter was reportedly conducting crop-spraying operations at the time of the accident.

Police have opened an inquest docket into the crash. The South African Civil Aviation Authority has been notified and is expected to release additional details once the investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
