A Brazilian woman with family ties to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has been detained by US immigration authorities. Bruna Caroline Ferreira was arrested near Boston while driving to pick up her son and is now being held at a Louisiana ICE facility pending removal proceedings.

Homeland Security officials say she overstayed a tourist visa that expired in 1999. Her lawyer disputes this, insisting she has no criminal record and has been seeking legal status. Ferreira shares custody of her 11-year-old son with Leavitt’s brother, who has asked for privacy.
