A 54-year-old deputy principal at Kayamandi Primary School in Stellenbosch was shot dead on Friday afternoon in what authorities believe was a targeted attack. The gunman entered the school shortly after pupils had gone home and opened fire while the educator, Mlamli Matshingana, was seated near the main gate.

Police have launched a murder investigation and are still searching for the suspect. Western Cape education officials have condemned the killing as a shocking act of violence on school grounds, with the motive still unclear.
