Temple Collapse in Verulam Claims Fifth Life

Rescue teams have recovered a fifth body from the collapsed temple construction site in Verulam near Durban. The four-storey structure reportedly fell on Friday 12 December 2025 during heavy weather. Emergency responders have worked through difficult conditions to reach victims and search for anyone still trapped beneath the rubble.

Local authorities say preliminary information suggests the building may have been erected without approved plans. The eThekwini Municipality said investigations into possible safety breaches are under way as families mourn those lost in the tragedy.
