UCT Maintains Eviction Decision as Students Dispute University Account

The University of Cape Town says it is standing by its decision to evict students from Philip Kgosana residence in Mowbray, arguing the building was unlawfully occupied by unregistered students. UCT says a court granted an eviction order in August.

Affected students dispute the university’s version, saying some postgraduates were wrongly swept up and left homeless just before Christmas. The SRC says it is assisting displaced students.
