UN Environment Report Stalls in Fossil Fuel Row

A landmark UN environment assessment has been released without an agreed summary for governments after a fight over language on phasing out fossil fuels. Several countries refused to back references to coal, oil and gas, forcing officials to abandon the negotiated summary.

Scientists warn that current patterns of energy use and food production are driving climate change, nature loss, and pollution, threatening food, water, and health security and demanding rapid cuts to harmful subsidies and investment in cleaner alternatives.
