Firefighters have contained most of the wildfire burning on the Houw Hoek mountain near the N2 in the Overberg, Western Cape. Crews worked through the night to secure the area around the Houw Hoek Hotel, 80km from Cape Town, with officials confirming that the establishment and the highway are not at immediate risk.

Active fire lines remain higher up in the mountains, and teams are continuing suppression efforts under hot and windy conditions. Authorities have urged motorists on the N2 to drive cautiously as drifting smoke may affect visibility. The blaze forms part of a broader spike in Western Cape wildfires this week.
