Japanese police are hunting three suspects after suitcases containing about 420 million yen, roughly R42 million, were stolen in a late-night street heist near Ueno station in central Tokyo, reports say.

The robbers allegedly used pepper spray to seize the luggage at about 9.30pm on Thursday in a busy area popular with tourists. Authorities say such a large cash robbery is unusual in Tokyo.
