South Africa has intensified efforts to secure a Formula 1 Grand Prix, with government and private partners backing a bid centred on Kyalami. The Sports Ministry says negotiations with Formula One Management are ongoing, and a steering committee is evaluating promoter and venue proposals. Funding is expected to come from private sponsors rather than the public purse.

Cabinet has endorsed a multi-year plan aiming for a 2027 race, while discussions with several companies are underway to raise the required investment. A rival Cape Town group continues to lobby for a street circuit proposal, keeping competition alive as South Africa pushes to return F1 to the continent for the first time in decades.
